Durga Puja & Lakshmi Puja

First Durga Puja for the block was held in the year 2010 with very few residents taking part in it. The first theme in the form of "Gram Bangla" (a village scene of Bengal) was tried last year (2013). It was a grand success as the block bagged three "Sharad Sanmans" (First Prizes) in three different catagories among all the pujas of Newtown and its sarroundings. The speciality of the puja is it's homely environment. All the residents, for the four days, behaves as a single unit. Everyone works hard to achieve success in the pujas and worship Maa Durga to the utmost. A few clicks of the recent puja (below) reminds us of it everytime.
