The name shows it is a new township. Government of West Bengal decided to make a new township adjacent to Salt Lake, which was previously the major agricultural artery of Kolkata. They distributed the land mainly to the cooperative housing societies and some individual buildings.
Action area 1B is mainly occupied by the housing cooperatives and individual buildings. HIDCO completed their basic infrastructural development and gave the permission to construct the buildings in 2007. The major problem during that time was electricity. Due to some basic problems electricity was
not available in any individual buildings and small cooperative buildings. In 2010 HIDCO solved the problem and started to distribute electricity in all types of residential buildings. In July, 2010.HIDCO also made another body to do the development work of New Town, New Kolkata Development Authority.(N.K.D.A.)
The residents of 1B who had completed their houses started to shift after July, 2010. But for this vast area the number of residents was very less, not more than 15-20 families. Nobody knew each other. They only knew that the white building will be occupied soon, in the red building three families may shift.
